Ability tests are usually timed and look at how well you can perform during the time given. Because of this, it is important that you are not disturbed when taking the tests. Though the timing will vary depending on the test, you should set aside around 30 minutes when you will not be disturbed to take each ability test.
Before starting the timed parts of the PfS ability tests you will be given full instructions and the chance to try practice questions. These questions are there to make sure you understand what the test requires you to do. It is important that you maintain your motivation throughout the timed section of the ability tests. You should work as quickly as possible, but not so quickly that you make unnecessary mistakes.
Personality and similar assessments are not timed. You should read the instructions carefully, as these will give you tips on how to approach the questionnaire. Practice questions will also be presented so you understand how the assessment works. As a general rule, it is best to work through these assessments at a reasonable pace rather that pondering for too long over each question.

Note that in the case of ability tests, the tests you will take if you buy them yourself will use different questions to those normally used for employee selection. However, the format of the tests and the style and difficulty level of the questions will be very similar.
