Learning Styles Indicator (LSI)

Getting the most from learning and development experiences through self-understanding...

Learning is at the heart of both education and working life.  Whether in formal education, learning through work or just wanting to make the most of the development opportunities that experience offers us, an appreciation of learning styles ensures we get the most from our learning opportunities.  Based on the model of Psychological Type, the LSI offers both an understanding of personal preferences and a practical model for developing learning experiences.

The PfS Learning Styles Indictor is an innovative assessment of learning preferences offering:

  • online or on paper tools;
  • flexible administration and reporting, fully controllable by PfS users;
  • a Jungian, developmental approach to learning styles;
  • short completion times without compromising reliability;
  • unique normative approach to identifying clarity of preference;
  • attractive design to aid motivation and completion;
  • comprehensive range of reports e-mailed to you immediately;
  • proven links to established Type assessments.

A truly developmental approach to learning

The LSI brings together a personality-based model of learning preference and an experiential model of the learning cycle.

Based on Carl Jung’s model of Psychological Type, the LSI explores how our underlying preferences affect the way we think, learn and communicate.  By setting personal learning preferences against Kolb’s experiential learning cycle, the LSI encourages appreciation of the complete learning process.  Learners are therefore encouraged to understand their natural contributions in the context of the learning cycle, the value of contributions from those with different preferences, and where they need to develop their flexibility to become a more complete learner.

Beyond individual learning preferences

The LSI is far more than just an indictor of learning preferences.  Being based on the model of Psychological Type the LSI can be used to:

  • encourage consideration of how preference affects how we communicate and appreciate the communication of others;
  • understand how preference can be used to enhance team-work through appreciating others’ natural contributions and capitalising on these;
  • develop meta-learning strategies and encourage the development of greater flexibility through working outside of preference;
  • help educators and trainers map the learning preferences of their groups, and structure learning environments and experiences to capitalise on natural preferences;
  • introduce the model of Psychological Type and provide a stepping stone to more in-depth personal exploration through tools such as the PfS Type Dynamics Indicator  (TDI®) and Management Team Roles Indicator (MTR-i™).

Advanced analysis and reporting

Each version of the LSI comes with a range of report options.  Detailed analysis of item-level responses allows in-depth, data-rich reports of preference to be generated for advanced interpretation.  A range of narrative reports is also available, supporting both experienced users and respondents through the exploration of their learning preferences and how these apply to areas including preferred learning environments, motivation and areas for development.

For users of the tools on paper, the PfS data entry facility allows online entry of data for automated scoring and access to the full range of reports available from the online assessments.

The online advantage

Our online system works the way you want to, giving you the option of using the LSI at a time that suits your development needs, controlling what reports are produced and who receives them.

Designed for you

The PfS assessment system can be readily tailored to your needs.  Company sponsored entry pages can be designed to reflect your branding and company logos included on reports.
